What you’ve all been waiting for: an exclusive extract from The Meleke Stone, an original novel of adventure, crime, ancient history and brotherhood:

“…A man in Egyptian army uniform lay at the side of the road, his hands bloodied, his legs positioned at a crazy angle. But there were signs of life. His team leader was right. The Egyptian’s eyes kept fluttering open and closed involuntarily, as he lay in the sweltering heat.

Quickly, Dov reached under the prostrate man’s armpits and pulled him sideways towards some bushes growing along the route.This would afford him some measure of shade whilst Dov checked for his vital signs. He pulled out of his top uniform pocket a small mirror which he held to the man’s mouth. The glass fogged up. Now signalling to his team, together they lifted the casualty up and into the back of the tank where one of their medics could assess his injuries.

Dov unscrewed the cap of a small phial he always carried and, lifting up the man’s head, he poured a few drops of brandy through his parched lips. Dov knew that in normal times, the man probably didn’t drink alcohol. But, as with the Jewish religion, he suspected that in times of trouble, the pursuit of life supersedes all other considerations. Coughing, the man managed to swallow the fiery elixir before dropping into unconsciousness again….”
